Ive been reading bell hooks “Teaching to Transgress” Education as the Practice of Freedom.
Related to this book as this is something I’ve practiced throughout my career without actually knowing it as a teaching practice. The notion of student and teacher learning from each other and not presenting a dominating figure. Industry is very much an on going learning practice, where you learn from peers, professionals and students.
She speaks of “education as a practice of freedom allows students to assume responsibility for their choices”(hooks 21) not to always look to the teacher for guidance but interpret the theory on their own.
The practice of an equal combination of knowledge, life skills and self actualization, is the education as a practice of freedom.
This pedagogy practice excites me and I look forward to putting it into practice in my safe space I call a classroom. By creating a safe space and acknowledging each and every students presents will allow me to achieve this.
Question!!
What pedagogical practices do we use giving the circumstance of online learning?
Do you think ontology is replaced by technology?
